Hansel - He's So Hot Right Now

Description

What can I say? He was really, really ridiculously good looking? :D

Some interesting oil pastel notes for other oil pastel artists:

For some reason I really felt like using oil pastels, for better or worse. I was really hoping to do some really cool oil pastel techniques. Unfortunately my Faber Castel oil pastels weren't as good as I had remembered them to be - they didn't glide across the paper or smudge into each other easily. The last time I used them was about 12 years ago! So apparently they expire :(. Nevertheless I persevered! At some points I really had to bully the pastel into the paper. Eventually I decided to try and melt the pastel that was already on the paper with a hairdryer. Mixed success. You can see on the wing I did manage to melt the pastel and use a brush to smooth it over so there weren't too many gaps on the paper. It was a bit of a juggle, holding down the paper, blowing with a hairdryer and painting the melted wax whilst it was hot. I should have clipped my paper down in retrospect :P

Some interesting notes once you use the hairdryer to melt the wax - it somewhat seals that layer, I've observed. This allows you to do more layers on top that can stand out and note blend too much with the bottom layers. However - you can't really scratch off top layers once you've melted the wax. This is the picture before I used a hairdryer to melt the wax: Hansel - He's So Hot Right Now (before hairdryer) by CharmyRaven

Maybe next time I should try some Sennelier Pastels? Also, does anyone know how to "revive" some old pastels? Also, anyone know of any other interesting techniques?

General anatomy thoughts:
This piece went through some interesting phases. When I first started drawing he looked like one of those angels from the Middle Ages stain glasses. Then he looked like some 80's rock star. Not sure if he ended up looking like Owen Wilson or not but :P Thank god for his distinctive nose! I noticed I always seem to struggle with the eyes and the mouth. All my eyes seem to have a flat sort of shape to them. Maybe I should practice doing eyes and mouths on their own without using any fancy mediums. This was also my first attempt at curly hair - what a nightmare! I know the wing could use some more shadows. I gave up after the last hairdrying :P Still, constructive criticism will always be appreciated!

No! He is NOT hot!

Aside from that. Art very well done. I think eyes are a little bit misplaced.
His left eye is higher than his right. (Or maybe it is only my imagination/delusion). Colors and shading are fine. Im not gonna lie here.
The whole painting looks creepy. He is definietly not a hot guy. More like the rapist. Well i have nothing more to say. Not my cup of tea but still good.

[And now i'm gonna spawn shit, bullshit and crap to get 100 words limit.
Who the fuck is responsible for this limit. Not cool. ]

Ok, I forgot something. Drawing angels are very popular so for originality i give you only 3 stars. Don't sweat it.
